Weighing In - Week Nine

I was expecting a difficult week, and it was. Work hours were consumed with meetings (again), and on Tuesday we helped James move into his dorm room at A&M.  There were a lot of less-than-healthy meals and more than a few desserts, and I only exercised 3 times. But I managed to survive and even (surprise!!) record a small weight loss.

My numbers for the week:
Pounds lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -0.4
Total weight loss:  9.0
Inches lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -0.5
Total inches lost:  16.5

This week I will get back on track. I will lose the weight. I will be bikini ready by next summer. Hey, it could happen.

I've joined my friends at Empty the Junk from the Trunk Facebook group in a 10-week motivation project. If I meet my weekly goals, my name goes into a drawing for a small cash prize.  I've won the prize once, and earned back my investment. While it would be nice to win again, I'd really rather see everyone else have a shot at it. Good luck everyone!

Weighing In - Week Eight

I am really feeling good about this little weight-loss project of mine. I'm working out four or five days a week, I have more energy, and I'm losing weight. I'm seeing a difference in the way my clothes fit - especially my pants. I could probably fit into a smaller size right now, but I'm going to wait a bit longer before buying any new pants.  Maybe I can even go down two sizes!

Here are my numbers for the week:
Pounds lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -1.2
Total weight loss:  8.6
Inches lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -1.5
Total inches lost:  16.0

I've joined my friends at Empty the Junk from the Trunk Facebook group in a 10-week motivation project. If I meet my weekly goals, my name goes into a drawing for a small cash prize.  I bumped my goals up a little bit last week and unfortunately didn't lose enough weight to qualify for the drawing. That's okay, though. The fact that I lost weight makes me very happy.

This week my baby heads off to college and I will be childless for the first time in 18 years. I'm not sure if that will have any effect on my results. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Weighing In - Week Seven

Some weeks I actually look forward to weigh-in day. Not this week. With a grand total of only three exercise sessions and more than a few tasty desserts consumed during the week, I was prepared to see my weight go up.

Imagine my surprise when I stepped on the scale and I had lost weight. Not a lot, but it wasn't a gain. Could it be that the roller coaster ride is over? Probably not.

The really big surprise came when I got out the tape measure and found that I had lost 4.5 inches. That's a number that I can get excited about!

Here are my numbers for the week:
Pounds lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -0.2
Total weight loss:  7.4
Inches lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -4.5
Total inches lost:  14.5

I've joined my friends at Empty the Junk from the Trunk Facebook group in a 10-week motivation project. If I meet my weekly goals, my name goes into a drawing for a cash prize - not a big amount, just something to make it interesting.

I won the $10 prize in the last drawing! Last week I didn't meet my goals, so I'm out of the running this time.

My goals for this week - continue using my food journal and limit desserts to no more than four, exercise at least 4 times, and (hopefully) lose at least 2 lbs.  I'll let you know how that works out.

Weighing In - Week Six

It seems that my weight loss journey is going to resemble a rollercoaster ride.  One week I'm up, and the next I'm down. I won't lie - I'm terribly disappointed every time the numbers go up. But knowing that they will probably go down again next week makes it a little easier to deal with.

This week was a good week.

I stuck to my plan to limit desserts, and only indulged four times.  This seems to have made a difference, so I'm going to repeat that next week.  And yes, afternoon cookies at meetings count as dessert.

Still rockin' the Zumba videos, and loving it!  I exercised 6 nights in a row, and actually looked forward to it. The really good news is that my foot pain has lessened. Still hopeful that it will go away completely.

Here are my numbers for the week:
Pounds lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -2.4
Total weight loss:  7.2
Inches lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -1.5
Total inches lost:  10.0

I'm sticking with my current plan - food journal (limit desserts), exercise at least 5 times, and weekly progress reports.  I am determined to reach my goal!

Yay!

Praying for Rain

It's August, and it's hot in Texas. REALLY HOT! For the last week, the temperatures have hovered at or above 100 degrees. At this moment, the temperature has dropped to 92... and it's 9:30 at night.

Not only is it hot, but we're in the middle of a severe drought (over 13 inches below our average rainfall). Recreational lakes are dangerously low, roads are cracking, and wildlife is coming into residential areas in search of food and water. People are praying for a hurricane in the Gulf, hoping that it would bring rain.

I'm doing my part to conserve water by not washing my truck, even though it was the victim of a fly-over bird bombing last week; by not watering the weeds that pass for ground cover in our yard; and by doing as few loads of laundry as possible. I know! It's a huge sacrifice, right?

Seriously though, I am so very grateful that I work in an office. I can't even imagine how uncomfortable it is for those people who work outside - especially those guys who are shoveling asphalt to repair all those cracked roads. I am grateful for an air conditioned home (and car) and for the trees that shade our property and keep our electricity bills out of the "oh my gosh!" range. I'm very fortunate.

I'm still praying for rain, though. Maybe even a hurricane...

Weighing In - Week Five

I was feeling really good about my progress this week, and expecting good results at weigh in. Then I got on the scales. Another gain. Not a big one, but still a gain.

Reviewing my food journal shows me that I am still struggling with the lunches during our daily meetings. Gotta stay away from the desserts and afternoon cookies! Today I learned that the meetings have been extended for another four weeks. Joy.

Zumba is still my favorite go-to exercise. I exercised six nights last week! I'm still experiencing pain in my foot - most likely plantar faciitis - it's not severe and goes away with stretching and massage. My hope is that it will go away completely as I lose weight.

Here are my numbers for the week:
Pounds lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  +0.4
Total weight loss:  4.8
Inches lost (-) or gained (+) this week:  -1.5
Total inches lost:  8.5

I refuse to let this minor setback get the best of me. My plan is to continue with my food journal and exercise program, and to say no to desserts a little more often.

I've joined my friends at Empty the Junk from the Trunk Facebook group in a 10-week motivation project. If I meet my weekly goals, my name goes into a drawing for a cash prize - not a big amount, just something to make it interesting. I did not meet my goals this week. Hopefully I will do better next week!
